Mike Rothman

Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Board Member

Michael Rothman has over 25 years of experience in the industrial service sector and 10 years in the retail services industry. Mr. Rothman has served as chairman and CEO of SMS Assist, L.L.C. since its startup in 2003.

Mr. Rothman transformed the business from a traditional brick and mortar service company into an advanced technology company whose mobile and cloud-based facilities maintenance platform manages over 28,000 affiliated providers to service a nationwide roster of Fortune 500 retail and industrial clients representing over 50,000 locations. Chief Financial Officer & Chief Administrative Officer

Marc Shiffman currently serves as the chief financial officer and chief administrative officer. Shiffman joined SMS Assist in 2010 to oversee special initiatives. Since joining the organization, he has primarily focused on finance and administration, including accounting, corporate finance, human resources, legal, marketing, compliance training and operations.

Prior to joining SMS Assist, Mr. Shiffman founded Marc R. Shiffman Advisors, which provided general management and consulting services to specialty and consumer products companies. In his role there, Mr. Shiffman provided strategic, financial and operating support as well as interim executive management. He also sourced deals, evaluated opportunities and performed due diligence for potential acquisitions across multiple industries.

Chief Revenue Officer

Matt Renner joined SMS in September 2015 as chief revenue officer responsible for building a world-class leadership and global sales teams and fostering leadership in key areas of the company to attract and retain talent.

Renner spent 20 years at the integrated cloud applications and platform services company, Oracle, most recently as senior vice president of business intelligence and enterprise performance management for North America. During that time, he led an organization of over 900 people.

Renner’s Oracle career included numerous information technology sales leadership roles across core technology, applications, and decision support organizations handling the most complex Oracle solutions and customers. In his role as the executive leading all of Oracle’s North American private-company accounts, Renner managed a team that was responsible for more than $1 billion in new and recurring license and support revenue.

Colin McGinnis joined SMS Assist in July 2016 as director of operations responsible for all operations functions in the organization, including procurement, implementation, process improvement and team development to support SMS Assist’s best-in-class customer service.

Colin brings more than 30 years of operations leadership to SMS Assist, most recently as senior vice president of store operations for Family Dollar, a national discount retailer and long-standing SMS Assist client. In his 12 years with Family Dollar, Colin held progressive operations leadership roles for an organization with more than 55,000 employees, overseeing store development and deployment, procurement, store services and facilities maintenance. From 1986 to 2004, Colin was a regional operations manager for Eckerd Drugs, where he led numerous customer-facing initiatives to improve revenue, productivity and the overall customer experience.

In the past several years and as the chief product officer, Mr. Rothman has reviewed the needs of operations and demands of the current market to reimagine SMS Assist systems purposed to strengthen the value proposition and overall solution offering to both the subcontractor and the client. In the design, the focus has been to gather and interpret data in a manner in which leverages the efficiencies of the subcontractor and operations in the performance of basic duties, without placing any added burden on the subcontractor in the process.

Mike Travalini

President, Residential

Mike Travalini joined SMS Assist in February 2016 to focus on the company’s rapidly growing residential division. He joins SMS Assist from Waypoint Homes, where he served as the senior vice president of operations. Mr. Travalini oversaw the national repairs and maintenance department, which included a nationwide team of technicians responsible for maintaining the company’s portfolio of 17,000 homes and related customer service and technology initiatives.

Prior to Waypoint Homes, Mr. Travalini was the director of acquisitions at the Laramar Group, a Chicago-based residential owner and operator with more than 40,000 national apartment units. He began his career as an auditor in the real estate practice group at the Boston office of Ernst & Young LLP.

Chief Information Officer

Jianqing Zhao joined SMS Assist in 2009, through the acquisition of SMS SMART. He is currently the CIO of SMS Assist. Mr. Zhao leads the development group in delivering the best proprietary technology and applies it to the facility maintenance industry. Mr. Zhao manages and oversees two SMS Assist development centers in China made up of about 60 people. He and his development team have designed and implemented MarketplaceSupport (MPS), which consists of a vendor management system, customer management system, call center dispatching system, store survey system and an IVR (Integrated Voice Response) system. He works closely with the CEO and chief innovation officer to create SMS Assist new technology, Snow and Ice Management (SIM), Recurring Maintenance System (RMS) and Global Services Management Platform (GSMP). Prior to SMS SMART, Mr. Zhao lead several IT development teams for large Fortune 1000 companies.

Chief Human Resources Officer

Anne Scharm joined SMS Assist in July 2016 and currently serves as chief human resources officer. With a focus on driving organizational strategies and employee engagement, she is responsible for leading human resources strategy and talent management and development for the company.

Prior to SMS Assist, Anne was senior vice president of human resources for Hunt Companies, a real estate and financial services company. In addition to leading human resources and talent functions for 1,500 Hunt employees across 30 states and 17 business lines, she implemented new human resource systems and strategized with the leadership team to grow employee engagement through acquisitions and divestures. Previously, she was vice president of human resources for A.M. Castle & Co., a $1 billion global supply chain company, driving talent-focused initiatives and compensation and benefits programs. Jamie Cusack

  • Vice President, Strategic Operations

Jamie Cusack is an experienced operations, technology, and business strategy professional who has advised clients in the retail, industrial equipment, transportation and logistics, utilities, pulp and paper, telecommunications and for-profit education industries. Throughout his career he has demonstrated strong analytic abilities used to quickly identify problem areas and devise and implement solutions for process optimization, revenue growth, and cost reduction.

Prior to SMS Assist, Mr. Cusack was a vice president in AlixPartners’ Enterprise Improvement practice where he led numerous initiatives to improve operational effectiveness and closely advise C-suite clients. Josh Lessack

Josh Lessack is an experienced operational manager who has worked with retail, restaurant, hospitality, industrial and residential clients for more than 10 years. He has exhibited the ability to lead and motivate teams of all sizes, maintain a high employee retention rate, reduce client costs while maintaining profitability and assist with IT development, revenue growth and affiliate management.

Mr. Lessack started at an early age in the construction field building residential homes and strip malls. Ashley Rothman joined SMS Assist in the summer of 2007, after attending Syracuse University where she majored in communications. Since joining the company, Ms. Rothman has served in various roles including project manager, account manager (for SMS’ largest customer), director, and most recently vice president operations, Interior Services. Having worked her way up through the company, Ms. Rothman gained a thorough understanding of the floor care and janitorial industry. Ms. Rothman is detail orientated with an entrepreneurial drive and a sincere client-service focus. Her positive outlook and industry expertise adds significant value to SMS Assist. Michael L. McMath

  • Vice President, Client Services

Michael McMath has over 30 years’ successful leadership experience in corporate level facilities management, contracting and procurement. He has held senior management positions with Compass Group, Wal-Mart and Alcoa. He has effectively managed annual maintenance budgets exceeding $1 billion dollars. He has operational experience with multi-unit national retail, industrial plant-manufacturing-operations and military base operations. He has developed and executed innovative cost savings initiatives specific to: asset management, inventory reduction, labor efficiency programs, net funds flow, customized consignment arrangements and CMMS initiatives. Richard Wender

Vice President, Strategic Account Operations

Richard Wender joined SMS Assist in 2016 with over 30 years of operations management experience in the Integrated Facility Maintenance Market with a concentration in janitorial services. As a senior vice president with Kimco Services, Richard had direct operational responsibility for a portfolio of over 3,000 locations, 90 managers and 6,000 employees.

Richard has been responsible for fiscal accountability, customer retention, quality control and management development. He has led the implementation of service level agreements and key performance indicators for both commercial and corporate clients with geographically diverse national portfolios.

Richard earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois-Urbana and his MBA from Loyola University Quinlan School of Business. He also successfully completed Six Sigma Black Belt training.

Vice President, Strategic Account Operations

Beth Huneycutt joined SMS Assist in June 2016 as Vice President Strategic Business Services responsible for all client-facing services and support, operations implementation, and process improvement across the organization.

Beth brings more than 29 years of retail leadership to SMS Assist, most recently as Divisional Vice President of Facilities Management, Energy Management and Store Services for Family Dollar Stores, a national discount retailer and long-standing SMS Assist client. In her 21 years with Family Dollar, Beth held various leadership roles for an organization with more than 8,000 locations nationwide. Her career has focused on business process engineering and store optimization which included energy management, facilities maintenance, stores services, process improvement and finance.

Jason Moos

  • Vice President, Finance

Jason Moos joined SMS Assist in December 2011 following nearly 10 years in public accounting. Jason currently serves as vice president of Finance, collaborating with the CFO to oversee all facets of finance and accounting for the company, including billing and collections, vendor management as well as tax and treasury management. He also works to ensure successful relationships among SMS and its customers, vendors, consultants and employees.

Prior to SMS Assist, Jason was a manager for FGMK, a professional services firm providing assurance, tax and advisory services to privately held businesses, global public companies and entrepreneurs. He worked closely with several rapidly growing, privately held companies across real estate, retail, manufacturing and service industries on audits, reviews, tax initiatives, software integration and consulting on due diligence projects. Alex Bezdek

Alex Bezdek joined SMS Assist in 2014 and currently serves as director of corporate strategy and chief of staff to the CEO, responsible for leading internal and client-facing initiatives, growth opportunities and operational improvements across the organization. Alex also spearheads the company’s strategic partnerships.

Prior to SMS Assist, Alex spent four years with Investor Group Services, a private equity consulting firm, where he led more than 50 market diligence, portfolio strategy, and investment screening projects that analyzed opportunities across diverse industries, including financial services, manufacturing and building services. Alex also spent six months as a volunteer consultant in Southern Africa for TechnoServe, an international nonprofit providing business solutions to poverty alleviation.

Angelo Pileggi joined SMS Assist in April 2015 and currently serves as director of strategic planning & special projects, leading the sales operations and support functions to drive continued growth for the company. Additionally, Angelo leads the evaluation and implementation of new business initiatives across the company’s vertical markets.

Prior to SMS Assist, Angelo spent 15 years in sales, marketing and operations functions, most recently as chief marketing officer for LinkCapital, a specialized financial firm. In his previous leadership roles for companies such as Sheffield Marketing Partners, VISANOW and Zebra Technologies, he focused on and driving scalable growth, organizational alignment and strategic direction for leaders, boutique companies and leading enterprises.

Lauren Glandt joined SMS Assist in 2005 as the compliance manager where over the past 8 years she built and managed the Compliance Department overseeing all contract, insurance, W9 and I9 compliancy for SMS Assist's Affiliate network of over 28,000 contractors. As the vice president of Compliance, Ms. Glandt developed the processes, procedures and training that ensured compliancy of all Affiliates who work with SMS Assist. The Compliance Department plays a vital part in protecting SMS Assist and all customers who work with our company from liability and safety concerns. Ms. Glandt also managed all claims and claim legal proceedings for SMS Assist. She worked with all SMS Assist clients to ensure indemnity and defense obligations were met and protected.

Guy Edasis joined SMS Assist in 2016 and currently serves as vice president of Marketing. Guy leads the marketing team as they drive continued growth and brand awareness for the company. Prior to SMS Assist, Guy spent three years with Signal, a global leader in real-time, cross-channel marketing technology. In addition, Guy worked at Groupon as the NY Metro Market general manager, where he led the company's most important and profitable market. Guy also served in the IDF as a Combat Medic and as a Lieutenant in a joint Israeli-Palestinian team. Guy earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and strategy from the IDC cum laude and was part the Sam Zell excellence program. Bob Anderson

Vice President, Sales

Bob Anderson joined SMS Assist in February 2016 as vice president of Sales for the Healthcare Support Services division, responsible for solutions sales in facility services for healthcare systems and real estate investment trusts (REITs), clinical service providers and physician practices.

As an industry veteran operating and selling facility management outsourcing programs since 1990, Bob brings extensive business development experience across diverse markets, including healthcare, industrial, energy and distribution and retail. Prior to SMS Assist, he was vice president of business development for ISS Facility Services, growing new business in multiple markets in the company’s Southeast region. Michael Toth

  • Vice President, Sales

Michael Toth joined SMS Assist in April 2015 as vice president of Sales, and is responsible for the leadership, development and growth of the company’s national restaurant division.

For more than 20 years, Mr. Toth has led several national restaurant and retail brand expansions and is a respected sales and operations professional with veteran experience in national sales, multi-unit operations, training and developing strategic partnerships for the restaurant and retail industries. With his additional experience in sales and operations for several national startups, Mr. Toth understands the unique demands of growing companies and the importance of setting and exceeding expectations to benefit organizations and their valued customers.

Dave Turner

  • Vice President, Sales

Dave Turner, vice president, Business Development has been a part of the SMS Assist team since its beginnings as a floor care company in 1989 and has worked alongside Michael Rothman, CEO of SMS Assist, with diverse responsibilities throughout the years including sales, sales management, marketing, project management, rollout implementation and customer retention.

Mr. Turner’s key accomplishments at SMS Assist include the generation of major opportunities and prospects, and closing deals with several high-profile clients. Additionally, while heading sales for an SMS Assist legacy company, Mr. Turner was responsible for the successful sale, rollout and maintenance of several multi-unit chain accounts totaling over 20,000 national locations.
